While fashion appears to be all about happiness, self-expression, and positivity, the industry hides many dark secrets. Most clothes are made by exploited workers, including small children. The growing, dyeing, and shipping of materials heavily impact the environment and deplete natural resources. Enormous amounts of unsold or returned clothing are dumped or burned, once again harming nature and destroying life in certain regions.
At the same time, the quality of store-bought clothing is rapidly declining. Colours fade faster, stitching is less durable, and fabrics feel less comfortable.
Rozh — meaning “sun” in my native Kurdish language — aims to shed light on the dark side of fashion. My goal is to create better clothing in every possible way. Starting with the most common item, the humble T-shirt, I am setting out to find a way to make high-quality garments that can last a lifetime.
